The Language Policy aims to:

BIS Ikebukuro views language as central to learning and personal growth,
emphasising not just words, but also the sensibility and empathy behind them.
Language is seen as a tool for understanding cultures and the world.
Language Diversity
1. Language Diversity
English is the primary instructional language, but Japanese is also supported.
Non-instructional time encourages English use for shared communication, though
students may speak their first language.

Support is provided for students’ first languages (especially Japanese), through
resources and encouragement for first language development at home. Materials in
multiple languages are made available to students.

Classes differentiate based on students’ language abilities. Activities are designed to

Language Diversity / 言語の多様性

英語が主な授業言語ですが、日本語もサポートされています。授業以外の時間では、共
通の言語として英語を使うことを奨励していますが、母国語を使うことも許されています。

BIS池袋では、特に日本語を母国語とする生徒のサポートを行っています。母国語の発
達を奨励し、家庭での母国語使用を推進しています。また、複数の言語でのリソースを提
供しています。

生徒の言語レベルに応じてクラスを分け、文章の書き方や会話のスキルをサポートして
います。先生は英語の使用を促すために、積極的なフィードバックを行います。

探究プログラムは主に英語で行われますが、英語が苦手な生徒には日本語でサポートし
