Every term, our IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) classes dive into a new Unit of Inquiry — a big idea explored through curiosity, hands-on experiences, and pupil-led questioning. This term, each kindergarten year group is busy investigating a different central idea, from the rules that keep us safe to how discoveries change the world.

K1 – We Have Rules to Keep Us Safe

Our youngest learners are exploring how rules aren’t just something adults say — they’re agreements that help everyone stay safe and happy.
K1の子どもたちは、ルールは大人が言うだけのものではなく、みんなを安全で幸せに保つための約束であることを学んでいます。
In class:
- Golden Rules Tree — We are creating a tree mural, adding leaves with safety rules we agree to follow.
- Safe vs Unsafe Choices Role-Play — Using props such as toy cars and scissors, children act out safe and unsafe scenarios.
クラスでの活動: - ゴールデンルールの木 — 安全のためのルールを葉っぱに書き、クラスの木に飾っています。
- 安全・危険な選択ごっこ — おもちゃやはさみを使って、安全な場面と危険な場面を演じています。
At home:
- Neighbourhood Safety Walk / まちのあんぜんさんぽ — Look for safety signs and crossings, and talk about their meaning.
- Family Safety Rules Poster / おうちのあんぜんルールポスター — Make a colourful poster of your family’s safety rules.
K2 – Communication Helps Solve Conflicts

K2 is investigating how words, tone, and body language can help us solve problems peacefully.

In class:
- Feelings Mirror — We are practising guessing emotions by looking at a partner’s face.
- Role-Play: Fix the Problem — Using puppets, children act out everyday conflicts and try different solutions.
クラスでの活動: - きもちミラー — 相手の顔を見て、どんな気持ちかを当てる練習をしています。
- なりきり解決ごっこ — 人形を使って日常のもめ事を演じ、いくつかの解決方法を試しています。
At home:
- Feelings Charades / 気持ちジェスチャーゲーム — Act out feelings without words, then guess and discuss.
- Two Sides Story / ふたりのものがたり — Retell a conflict from both people’s points of view.
K3 – People’s Discoveries Help Us Explore New Places and Ideas

K3 learners are thinking like scientists, inventors, and explorers — using curiosity and tools to make sense of the world.
K3の子どもたちは、科学者や発明家、探検家のように考え、好奇心や道具を使って世界を理解しています。
In class:
- Discovery Station Explorers — Children are exploring magnets, fossils, and mystery objects to spark observation skills.
- Moon Dust & Craters Experiment — We are simulating asteroid impacts to learn about space.
- Inventors and Explorers Museum — Pupils are preparing presentations on historical figures who changed the world with their ideas.

- Inventor’s Tool Hunt / 発明家の道具さがし — Find objects at home that help us learn or discover.
- Back Garden Astronomers / お庭で天文学者 — Observe the night sky and draw what you see.
