June 2016: “Welcome To Japan!” and Open Class – Kindy Teacher Charles

We had a busy June! In keeping with our mission statement of teaching children both English language and Japanese culture, this month we learned about Japanese culture…using English language! We also had Open School week, during which parents could observe, and sometimes participate in, their children’s lessons.

We started “Welcome To Japan” month off with a unit on Okinawa. After learning lots of facts, language and songs, we went to see some visiting artists from Okinawa at Sunshine City.

During Open School, parents could watch circle time, homeroom, and lessons like Phonics and Math.

During the Ninja homeroom, the parents got in on the act by stealing the children’s cups and towels! Could the young ninjas sneak in and get their things back without waking the sleeping villains?

During Jinja homeroom, the children visited Funshinejingu (FunShrine?) and made ema and drew omikuji. All the children had good fortune, but the parents were not so lucky…
