Week1のTheme「Funshine Scout Camp!」
Day One: [Welcome to the Scout Camp!]
In the first week of this year’s Summer School
we became Boy and Girl Scouts and learned a lot about forests and camping.
We started the day with learning our theme song:
“A Camping We Will Go” which taught us the most important camping activities,
such as “pitch a tent”etc. Hi-ho and off we go!
Next, we learned the Scout Oath:
a very important promise every Scout Boy and Girl needs to know and keep.
We also learnt the official Scout Motto used in English-speaking countries:
Scouts often work in teams, so this week our kids were assigned to one,
that was based on their grade:
Every real Scout collects badges for achievements they do. So did we!
The children received special cases for their Scout badges
that they collected throughout the whole week.
In the morning, we talked about what real Scouts need to be:
Scouts are friendly! Scouts are helpful! etc..
To get prepared for camping in the forest our lovely Kinder Scouts made colorful camping lanterns.
The Elementary School Scouts of the Bear Team made a mini-campfire
using real nature items such as rocks and sticks.
This mission brought everyone a Camper Badge!
We also designed our Scout scarfs that we wore every day for the whole week!
They were decorated with lots of lovely pictures and badges from the team the children belong to.
For making their personalized scarfs, our Scouts all got a Craftsman Badge!
Day Two: [Treasures of Nature]
The Second day of our FunShine Scout Camp was all about nature and exciting findings
we can discover in places such as forests, parks or sea.
Instead of flashcards, we used some real-life nature treasures,
such as different kinds of rocks, plants, pine cones, etc.
We talked about their sizes (big, small, medium), textures (smooth, rough, fluffy) and
used our senses (seeing, touching, smelling and hearing) to discover them better.
Let’s touch a feather! It feels fluffy!
Let’s hear sounds of a seashell! They sound like the ocean!
After interacting with the objects, we had a great nature treasure hunt,
during which the children discovered items
we studied about at the lesson time hidden in different places in the school.
Our initial plan was to do that in a nearby park but unfortunately,
just as we were getting to go out, we were surprised by sudden rain L.
Nevertheless, the hunt was exciting and fun and after completing the task,
our Scouts obtained a Treasure Hunter badge!
In the afternoon, we used our treasures for making another amazing craft:
lovely pendants for the Scouts of the Fox, Deer,
Rabbit and Mushroom team and a picture frame for the Scouts of the Bear team.
Last but not least were story stones.
We used rocks with pictures of different categories to make stories.
The children uncovered new rocks to make stories and obtained a Storyteller badge.
Day Three: [Ranger Training]
On the third day of our Camp, we discussed common activities that Scouts do.
Ex. Scouts pitch tents! Scouts go fishing!
Scouts explore! Scouts study nature!
The children were really eager to share their own experiences with these activities and
happily talked about places they explored (ex. I explored a park!),
food they got by themselves (I caught a big fish! I went strawberry picking) and many others.
After the discussion center, we had a special Scout Ranger training during which the children learnt special codes:
hand sign alphabet and Scout phonetic code to decode a special password:
“FunShine Scouts are the best!”
Mission cleared! We unlocked the Ranger badge!
Day three of our FunShine Scout Camp was also full of games and playtime!
We had a lovely time splashing and shooting water in the pool!
We also played a fishing game to see which of our Scout teams
is the best at catching fish and unlocked the Fisherman badge!
Afternoon brought us even more fun.
We played Scout bingo with lots of English vocabulary of items,
animals and places we encounter while camping.
Before going home, we had yet another activity that all Scouts really love:
making a scary story! The story that was created
by our imaginative rangers was undoubtedly very original and one of a kind!
FunShine Academy Scary Fill-in-the-Gaps Camp Story
On a dark and spooky night, a scary Doctor Horrible came to Adventure Scout Camp.
He was hiding by a tree! “He is so scary!” the Scouts shouted.
…and so forth…
Being Scouts is fun!
